Sustainable Fuels
Phoenix has always been a pioneer in the production of ultra low carbon sustainable biofuels. Amid concerns over the sustainability of certain biofuels, Phoenix’s cyclical model of sustainability utilises rapeseed grown in rotation with other vegetables as a break crop, enhancing rather than disrupting food production.
Through using locally grown seed and cold pressing instead of heat pressing the carbon footprint of our oil is unrivalled by other biofuels.
From energy crop rape seed we produce two valuable bio fuel products:
Pure Plant Oil (PPO)
PPO is an excellent choice of renewable low carbon fuel due to its high energy density and its ease of transportation and storage. PPO CHP systems require much less space than equivalent biomass systems, meaning that they can be installed into existing buildings or complexes with relative ease.
Our PPO can be traced back to the field the seed was grown in, meaning that we have exact knowledge of the energy input through cultivation, transportation, production and delivery. We can calculate the actual carbon intensity of our PPO instead of using industry defaults.
We can supply PPO nationally, in quantities ranging from 8,000 – 30,000 litres per delivery, through our own dedicated distribution network.
A successful PPO energy solution requires not only a high quality fuel, but also a well designed, constructed and operated CHP system. With expertise spanning building physics, low-carbon design and renewable energy supply solutions, our technology solutions partner, LowC Communities, can guide clients seamlessly through design, implementation and operation of renewable energy infrastructure. Sustainable Solid Fuel
Our PPO production is managed carefully to produce a solid co-product which is also suitable for use as a biofuel. This consists of the husk flesh of the seed and can be produced in a variety of forms to suit different energy installations:
- Pellets – which are well suited to auto-feed boiler systems
- Small briquettes which are ideal feed material for mass burn devices or gasification units
