Our Values
The Phoenix Group began when a group of leading Nottinghamshire farmers realised that they could use crops to provide a sustainable green energy source for their food production businesses. We knew that for the model to work it would need to be planned to the very last detail to ensure that all of the rapeseed crop would generate an integrated supply of truly sustainable energy.
The result is a unique and completely traceable cyclical model, which has taken two years of planning, research and investment to develop into the process we use today. This British Model of biofuel production is entirely distinct from the global biofuel production that’s causing damage to the environment and we have paid careful attention to the recommendations included in the government’s Gallagher Review.
Our target is to source crops from within a 50 mile radius of the production site at Rufford. We use rapeseed grown as a “break” crop - it is planted as part of the natural rotation between food and other crops that nature needs to keep farm land in prime condition.

The Phoenix model generates not only energy for the group, but also a variety of energy products for our customers and the general public. Please visit the Products section of the web site for details of all our food, fuel and energy.
Looking to the Future: we have used our own knowledge of farming and business and worked with some of the UK’s most talented academics to create a sustainable and highly efficient fuel, food and energy system – the only one of its type in the UK.
We use real time tracking to monitor production and run a production facility at one of our farms that’s capable of producing 9 million litres of Pure Plant Oil per annum.
The Phoenix Group has made a long term commitment to the responsible production of British Model biofuels and are on target to become an industry leader in the next 12 months. We will continue working to find new methods of combining farming and technical innovation to improve the provision of sustainable food, fuel and energy in the UK.
